And many more...

See how solar could benefit your business

Solar is one of the best ways a business can reduce their scope 2 emissions and meet their net zero targets, all whilst making significant financial savings

Key Steps for Commercial Solar Installations

Roof mounted solar

Roof mounted solar provides the best opportunity for businesses to quickly invest in solar. A quotation can be provided via a desktop assessment, using Google Maps, half hourly data, and specialist in-house design and analysis tools.

Ground mounted solar

Ground mounted solar provides a great opportunity for businesses but requires a more complex development process. As such we recommend opting for a consultative approach starting with a free desktop feasibility report.

Carport solar

Alongside roof mounted and ground mounted solar, we can provide carport solar solutions. Like with the other technologies, this would start via a free desktop assessment.

G99 grid application

Before the installation of any three phase system greater than 11.04 kWp an application needs to be submitted to the distribution network operator, or DNO. The network study ensures that the solar array can be safely connected to the existing network.

We will submit the application on our client’s behalf, working with our sister company Connectus Utilities and external specialists when required. Connectus have a vast amount of experience, from working with DNOs to managing ICPs and coordinating network upgrades. For more information about Connectus Utilities, please click here

Prior approval application

Any roof mounted solar PV system above 50 kWp and designed within permitted development will only require a prior approval application, which is a much streamlined application compared to full planning. Carport can also fall under permitted development.

Full planning permission

Ground mounted solar will require full planning permission, and likely specialist surveys. The good news is that Ennovus Solutions will prepare and submit the full application on your behalf, coordinate the specialists surveys, and work with the local planning authority to gain planning permission. Some carport installations will also require full planning.

Installation and commissioning

Our solar installations are managed by our dedicated in-house project management office. As with all construction projects, the installation will be completed in accordance with the Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulation 2015.

Ennovus Solutions will act as the Principal Designer and the Principal Contractor for the duration of the project.

This means that we will take responsibility for the entire project, including elements such as site management, mechanical and electrical installation, fencing, site compound, procurement, site clearance, as well as much more to ensure the delivery of a full turnkey service.

Solar Insurance Compliance

Ensuring insurance compliance is fast becoming a key part of the solar design phase. Some insurance providers will require measures that go above and beyond the MCS guidance, and codes of practices such as IET and RC62.

Ennovus Solutions are well versed in designing the required risk mitigation strategies to keep your insurers happy. As such we commonly design systems that include many of the insurance requirements as a standard.

Why Ennovus Solutions?

Regulations & Guidance

Our solar PV designs follow the relevant standards such as MCS, IET, and RC62, as well as our projects adhering to the CDM 2015 regulations. Our team also hold qualifications such as SSSTS, 18th Edition, PRINCE2, as well as many more.

Holistic Design

Our designs consider all criteria from cost, to warranties, to supply chain traceability, and to ease of maintenance. Our designs will also consider how solar can be implemented alongside other low carbon technologies for maximum benefits.

Consultus Group

Being part of the Consultus Group provides additional expertise. This can range from volume tolerances to the smart export guarantee. Or why not take another step on your net zero pathway with Consultus Sustainability.

Guide to Solar

Commercial Solar FAQs

The cost of solar can vary depending on installation requirements and specification. Roof mounted solar offers the most cost-effective solution, with systems costing as low as £600 per kWp. This means a 100 kW system would cost £60,000. A well designed roof mounted system should payback in circa 5 years, or even less.

If your business can’t consume all the generation then the excess energy will be exported to the grid. Under the smart export guarantee (SEG) you can be paid for your export. Our sister company, Connectus Utilities, can help setup and manage export contracts so that you get paid the best rates available for your excess. Rather than just exporting, excess generation could provide a great opportunity to electrifying an existing system. For example, an electric boiler for heating or EV chargepoints for a really green fleet.

Solar PV systems are often talked about as having a 25+ year lifespan. However, to ensure their longevity an operation and maintenance schedule is needed. This typical includes an annual electrical servicing and a module clean every 1-2 years.

Whilst O&M is often thought to begin following the commissioning of the solar installations, it needs to be considered during the early stage system design and before installation. It is important to ensure that maintenance and access walkways have been factored into the array, and future fall protection and access has been carefully considered.
