Renewable energy for the sports & leisure industry

Looking for sustainable energy solutions for your sports or leisure business? As a sector, the sports & leisure industry has been hard hit by rising energy costs. Further driven by high consumption levels and shifting consumer priorities, it’s more important than ever to consider how being more sustainable can help your business.

Simplifying sustainability in sports & leisure

Sustainability has been a key topic in the sports industry for years now. We all know we need to be more sustainable, and we want to do our bit to help the planet, but how do we get there? With so many options to choose from, costs to consider, and the day-to-day running of your business taking up your time, it’s hard to know how or where to start.

Ennovus Solutions are here to help you take those crucial first steps. From energy audits and feasibility studies to easy-to-implement energy saving solutions and full on-site renewable energy generation, we work with sports and leisure businesses like yours to reduce costs, save time and be greener.

Solar panels for sports clubs and leisure centres

Whilst powering large sites for sports and leisure centres can be a huge cost (energy costs account for as much as 30% of the total running costs in leisure centres!) your building might actually be the answer to reducing your bills and boosting your green credentials.

All that roof space makes solar power a great renewable energy option. Solar power offers a smart, reliable way to take control of your electricity usage, reduce operational costs, and move towards net zero, all whilst showing a commitment to sustainability. And with an average payback period of 5 years, it’s a solution well worth exploring.

LED
lighting

As much as 20% of total energy costs can be attributed to lighting in sports centres. LEDs can reduce this demand by up to 60%.

Energy efficiency upgrades

Reducing your energy consumption means you reduce your energy costs, so implementing energy efficiency upgrades is a great way to lower your bills.

What is sustainability in sport?

Sustainability in sport covers a number of environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and economical actions, aimed at reducing negative impact on the environment and promoting positive change.

Some examples include creating energy-efficient stadiums, reducing waste, and promoting sustainable travel.

Sustainability initiatives aim to ensure a future for sports stadiums, both in mitigating risks of climate change, and in reducing costs. To find out more about sustainability in sports and leisure, check out our blog.

Sport and leisure facilities are both at a high risk of the effects of climate change, and big contributors to carbon emissions. Implementing sustainability initiatives will be crucial to reducing the impact of the sector on the environment and future-proofing businesses.

But outside of the environmental drivers, sustainability is a huge factor in driving down costs. With energy costs making up around 30% of a leisure centre’s running costs, finding ways to reduce energy bills (such as installing renewable energy solutions) will help businesses mitigate the impact of cost increases across their day-to-day operations.

For more reasons to consider sustainability for your sports and leisure business, take a look at our blog.

Leisure centre energy consumption varies, depending on factors such as building size, facilities, age, opening hours, and energy efficiency measures.

However, it is estimated that the average consumption for leisure centres with a swimming pool use around 1,500 – 2,500 kWh per m2 per year, whereas dry-side only facilities use approximately 300 – 500 kWh per m2 per year.
