Why choose a commercial wind turbine?
Wind turbine installation can be a great renewable energy option for businesses looking for a more consistent generation profile as an alternative, or compliment, to solar. With a range of technology available, we can recommend the best commercial wind turbine for your business needs.
Commercial wind turbines can range from micro-turbines to the large megawatt scale meaning that there will be a wind turbine that suits your businesses’ electricity consumption and needs. There are even roof mounted wind turbines for businesses with significantly space constrained sites.
Our installation process
Our installation process is designed to ensure your new wind turbine is installed safely and efficiently, and maximises the opportunity for generation. We adopt a structured four stage process to wind development projects to ensure that a project is technically and commercially viable before proceeding.
01
Free desktop assessment
We will work with you to provide our best commercial wind turbine recommendation, as well as assessing alternative generation opportunities. Our recommendation will include key metrics such as indicative costs, payback periods, annual generation, carbon reduction, as well as providing a high-level assessment on the planning viability.
02
Feasibility study
We’ll conduct a full feasibility study to understand both the technical and commercial viability of your business wind turbine project. This could include liaising with the grid network and local planning authority, conducting specialist surveys, as well as the engineering, design, and financial analysis.
03
Permits & permissions
To fully de-risk the necessary permits and permissions need to be gained before moving to construction. We will prepare and submit application to gain a connection offer from the DNO (distribution network) and full planning permission from the local planning authority. Other permissions such as land leases may also be required.
04
Implementation
Our in-house team of project engineers and project managers will manage the installation in accordance with CDM 2015, acting as Principal Designer and Principal Contractor. Our installations are always full turnkey, including site setup, procurement, groundworks, and site clearance, removing responsibility from our clients.
The benefits of commercial wind turbines
Not sure if wind turbine installation is right for your business? Check out some of the benefits of commercial wind turbines below, or get in touch with our team to discuss your options.

Consistent generation profile
Wind offers a consistent generation profile, creating power throughout the night and on darker days.

Energy and financial savings
By generating your own energy onsite, you’ll be making both energy and cost savings – money that can be put back into your business.

Compliments solar generation
Wind turbines are the perfect complimentary technology for solar panels. Create a robust, renewable energy system that combines both.
Wind turbines vs solar panels
The advantages to solar panels include their scalable and straightforward installation requirements, quick payback periods, and suitability and for most businesses. However, their generation profile means that in the winter and outside of the middle of the day, a business will be more reliant on grid electricity.
Wind turbines solve this problem with a high and consistent generation profile throughout the day and across the year. By combining solar panels with a wind turbine, a business can create a very energy resilient and robust renewable generation system.

The importance of feasibility studies for wind turbines
Commercial wind turbines are notoriously more difficult to install than solar panels and as such it is strongly recommended that feasibility studies and pre-installation work is conducted to significantly de-risk the project and give confidence to all stakeholders.
Feasibility studies will answer key questions such as ‘how much does a commercial wind turbine cost’, will develop a technically and commercially robust solution for your business, and ensure that all permits and permissions are in place.
Without a feasibility study and simply exchanging contracts for a full design & build of a commercial wind turbine, there are many project risks and unknowns that could adversely impact the scope, cost, and timescales, or even completely derail the project.

Check out our FAQs below, or reach out to one of our friendly team for more information.
How is generation from a wind turbine calculated?
For small scale wind turbines there is MCS guidance. However, for large turbines it is more complex. Using our bespoke in-house wind generation analysis tool, combined with location based wind data we can provide accurate wind generation assessments. The location based data can either be MET office data or data collected at the exact location via LiDAR or other measuring techniques.
Do wind turbines require planning permission?
In 2024 the government lifted the de facto ban on onshore wind, with the aim of doubling onshore wind by 2030. The vast majority of wind turbines will require full planning permission. The good news is that Ennovus Solutions can submit pre-planning and full planning applications. It is only single very small scale wind turbines that can pass through planning as permitted development, however, the government are currently reviewing the permitted development rights for on-shore wind turbines with the consultation period ending in June 2026.
How much space does a wind turbine need?
The space requirements naturally increase with the size of the turbine. It is important that the development footprint not only considers the space occupied by the turbine but also the construction area required. For example, a 100 kW turbine would require circa 30m x 30m development footprint.
